How I'd Spend an Evening and Morning Layover in ANC

Anchorage is one of those layovers that feels different the moment you arrive. Maybe it's the mountain views, the crisp air, or the fact that summer sunsets seem to last forever, but Alaska has a way of making even a quick overnight feel memorable.

While a longer layover would allow for glacier tours and wildlife spotting, even a simple evening and morning in Anchorage can be packed with great food, local favorites, and a little bit of Alaska charm.

🍺 Dinner with a View at 49th State Brewing

After checking into the hotel, head straight to 49th State Brewing. This is my go-to recommendation for crews looking for a classic Alaska evening.

The menu has something for everyone, the drinks are great, and during the summer months the balcony is the place to be. Watching the sun slowly dip below the horizon after 11 p.m. while enjoying dinner and a local beer is one of those experiences that reminds you why this job is so special.

🧀 Late-Night Anchorage at F Street Station

If the crew isn't ready to call it a night, make your way to F Street Station.

Equal parts dive bar and Anchorage institution, this place has become one of my favorite memories from Alaska layovers. The drinks are strong, the atmosphere is lively, and it's one of those rare bars where striking up a conversation with a stranger feels completely normal.

And yes, the legendary block of Tillamook cheese sitting on the bar is self-serve. Consider it a rite of passage.

🤠 One More Stop: Gaslight Lounge

For anyone still awake, Gaslight Lounge offers exactly the kind of chaos that makes for good crew stories later.

After a night out, there's only one correct answer for breakfast: Snow City Café.

Consistently ranked among the best breakfast spots in Anchorage, it's a crew favorite for good reason. The portions are generous, the coffee is strong, and the menu highlights local Alaskan ingredients and specialties. Whether you're recovering from a fun crew night or simply fueling up before your next flight, this is the kind of breakfast that makes getting out of bed worth it.

🚵🏼‍♀️ If You're Still Awake: E-bike Along the Water

Rent an e-bike from one of the four bike rental locations in downtown Anchorage and experience the city from a whole new perspective. Unless you’re an experienced rider, an e-bike is the way to go — it allows you to enjoy all the incredible views without tiring yourself out on the longer trails.

Ride along the coast, around the airport, and through Earthquake Park and Kincaid Park for some of the best scenery Anchorage has to offer. Along the way, you’ll have amazing views of the water, islands, and mountains while watching airplanes take off and land nearby. It’s the perfect way to explore Anchorage outdoors and see more of Alaska during your visit.

Anchorage may be known for its incredible outdoor adventures, but even a quick overnight can leave a lasting impression. Some cities are great because there's so much to do. Anchorage is great because even a simple evening and morning feel uniquely Alaskan.
